SUBJ: EIGHTY-FOURTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE COAST GUARD RESERVE
A. Recognition Programs, COMDTINST 1650.26A
1. For 84 years, the Coast Guard Reserve has been a cornerstone of mission readiness and excellence
since its establishment
on February 19, 1941.
2. Our reservists remain steadfast in responding to Coast Guard operational demands in the homeland
and abroad:
a. The Port Security community adopted an adaptive force package Model to enable critical military
operations defending our nation. July 2024 saw the first of many deployments of Embarked Security
Teams (EST) to support maritime missions in the Pacific.
b. In March 2024, the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore led to the loss of lives and
the closure of the Port of Baltimore. Reservists were essential to the Coast Guard's response
efforts, providing 86 personnel for public safety, investigation, and restoring the Marine
Transportation System fundamental to economic prosperity.
c. Coast Guard reservists contributed over 28,000 duty days carrying out essential Coast Guard
operations, including Operation Vigilant Sentry (OVS). Over 300 reservists supported Department of
Homeland Security efforts to curtail illegal migration and secure
our southern maritime border.
3. As we look toward the future, our commitment to shaping the force, enhancing operational Reserve
readiness, improving support structures, and meeting the challenges of the next decade is
unwavering. We celebrate the commitment and sacrifices of every reservist who exemplifies the Coast
Guard's core values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty.
4. On this 84th anniversary, we extend our deepest gratitude to the Reserve workforce for their
outstanding service to the Nation. Bravo Zulu and Semper Paratus!
5. RADM Tiffany Danko, Assistant Commandant for Reserve (CG-R), sends.
6. Internet release is authorized.
