Reserve Assignments

Requesting Assignment

  • Members should request assignment via the “PCS e-Resume” module in Direct Access. This is the primary method for members to communicate their assignment preferences. The Direct Access Self Service e-Resume guide can be found here.

  • Members with no access to Direct Access should complete form CG-2002 and email to your Assignment Officer or RPM-2. IRR members do not need a command endorsement when requesting assignment and are not required to fill out sections 11 and 12.
     
  • Find your unit's contact information from the Standard Distribution List (SDL). (CG Intranet only)

Assignment and Rotation Requirements

Official Assignment Policy may be found in the Reserve Policy Manual, Chapter 5, Generally, members are assigned to the unit closest to their permanent home address with appropriate vacant positions. Members who voluntarily accept orders beyond RCD shall include the following statement in their e-resume: "I, (rank and name) on (date), understand the Reasonable Commuting Distance (RCD) policy stipulated in COMDTINST M1001.28, and will voluntarily accept orders beyond RCD."

  • Senior Officers (O-5 & O-6) should submit e-resumes indicating their career intentions and desires for consideration by assignment officers. Normal tour length is three years. Off-season assignments are normally announced for unit CO and Senior Reserve Officer (SRO) positions located at major commands. If applicable, these position openings are normally announced via ALCGRSV message.

  • Junior Officers (O-1 through O-4) should submit e-resumes indicating their career intentions and desires for consideration by assignment officers. Normal tour length is three years. Off-season positions (if applicable) are normally announced via ALCGRSV message.

  • CWOs and senior enlisted members should submit e-resumes indicating their career intentions and desires for consideration by assignment officers. Normal tour length is five years. Off-season positions (if applicable) are normally announced via ALCGRSV message.

  • Junior enlisted personnel (E-6 and below) tour length is normally a minimum of five years, but may require transfer sooner due to advancement, service needs, etc. Off-season positions (if applicable) are normally announced via ALCGRSV message.

  • PCS e-resumes will not be accepted outside of the e-resume submission period noted in the AY Kickoff message unless a member is relocating their residence outside of RCD of their current assignment or requesting a critical fill assignment (e.g., PSU, Strike Team, etc.) within RCD. A command endorsement is required for all e-resumes submitted outside the submission period, even for members that are tour complete.

      • SERA positions require a specific endorsement, see Senior Enlisted AY17 Assignment Guide
      • Early rotations
      • Tour Extensions
      • All e-resume submitted outside of the submission period, even for members who are tour complete.

Retention of SELRES Position

In accordance with COMDTINST 3061.2A, Activation of the Reserve Component, PSC-RPM maintains approval authority for retention of SELRES positions during multiple sets of consecutive Short-Term ADOS orders totaling 181 days or more.

Reservists on consecutive Short-Term ADOS totaling 181 days or more must compete for an assignment to a permanent Reserve position on the PAL as part of the deactivation process.

Reservists requesting to retain their SELRES position must submit a Retention of SELRES Position Request Memo through their assigned SELRES unit and the receiving ADOS unit. Submit requests to HQS-SMB-CGPSC-RPM-2-ASSIGNMENTS

Declining SELRES Assignment Orders

Members who decline Selected Reserve assignment orders must notify CG PSC-RPM in writing of their intent to decline orders within 30 days of the CG PSC-RPM orders approval date. Procedures for declining orders may be found in the Reserve Policy Manual, Chapter 5.A.10
