Mission:
To provide a communications link between military and civilian service members and active duty personnel, and to keep military retirees abreast of available benefits; and to keep all retirees abreast of upcoming special events, and the latest happenings in the Coast Guard.
What We Do:
The Capital Area Retiree Council (CACGRC) is an active organization. The Capital Area Retiree Council serves an area generally between Baltimore, MD, and Richmond, VA, and meets quarterly at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, DC. The Council is active in many areas. The council prepares and distributes a quarterly newsletter that contains information of particular interest to the area retirees. Meeting minutes are prepared and distributed. A “bang list” containing the E-mail address and other information of each Coast Guard retiree in the capital area has been prepared and used send “mass E-mailing” about late breaking news or other timely news that is of interest to the retired community. The “bang list” is comprised of retired members who have consented to being on the distribution list. The council is particularly pleased of the organization of a yearly Christmas/Holiday party in Vinson Hall for all area retired members.
An example of a specific task the Capital Area Retiree Council has performed, was the organization and staffing of “national” retiree help desk (or hot line) to provide assistance and answer questions originating from not only Coast Guard retired personnel, but from retired personnel from the other services. This function is now being performed by retirees from our capital area as well as other Retiree Councils around the United States.
