Detachment Borinquen Housing Office - (787) 890-8470
Coast Guard San Juan HHG Coordinator - (787) 729-2316
Overview: Base housing is located less than a mile from the Air Station. Housing Units are comprised of 2, 3, and 4 bedroom family quarters. Quarters are governed by family size as outlined in COMDTINST M11101.13G Housing Manual and BDBQNINST 11101.1A
Assignment to Housing: All Coast Guard active duty personnel, accompanied and unaccompanied, are expected to live in Coast Guard owned housing upon acceptance of orders to Air Station Borinquen (ASB) & Base Detachment Borinquen (BDB). Exceptions may be approved on a case-by-case basis. Historically, approval to live off base and receive OHA has been granted to single members, with no dependents, E-6 and above. In the event that a house is not yet ready for occupancy, members may be assigned to MWR Guest Housing with Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA). Current Inter-Service Support Agreements provide housing to Army and Air Force personnel/families.
Express Shipments (unaccompanied baggage): This shipment can be delivered while receiving TLA awaiting assignment to housing. Household Goods (HHG) cannot be delivered until housing assignment has been made. In extreme cases, members have been on TLA, without HHG, for several months. Speak to your servicing SPO about unaccompanied baggage entitlements.
Garages: For units that do not have garages, one may be assigned from the available garage complexes in the housing area. Typical assignments include one garage per family or one garage shared by 2 UPH members.
Pets, UPH: In accordance with the Coast Guard Housing Manual, pets are not authorized in Unaccompanied Housing (UPH). Inbound UPH members are not authorized to bring pets into UPH housing. However, an exception has been made where members E-6 and above are authorized to have pets.

FAMILY HOUSING
Appliances: Family housing units are equipped with air conditioners, electric stoves, and refrigerators; however, you may ship your own refrigerator. Accompanied personnel must provide their own washer/dryer.
Furniture: While almost any type of furniture is acceptable, keep in mind that Puerto Rico is in the tropics; termites and corrosion are a threat. Storage space is limited in family units, consider leaving a portion of your household goods (HHGs) in government non-temporary storage INCONUS. Personnel should check with housing and/or sponsors before shipment of HHGs.
UNACCOMPANIED PERSONNEL
HHGs: There is an administrative weight limitation of 2500 lbs., per the Joint Travel Regulation. Members have the option of shipping HHGs up to the prescribed weight allowance, but should consider the size of their UPH housing and the option to place HHGs in non-temporary storage prior to departing their previous unit.
