Naval Engineering Department

Location: Coast Guard Building, Room 264

Hours: Monday through Friday - 0700 - 1530

Through our Maintenance and Weapons Augmentation teams (MWAs), Industrial Production Facilities (IPFs) and Industrial Production Detachments (IPDs), we provide recurring and conditional, preventative and corrective depot level maintenance supporting cutters and boats throughout the Eighth Coast Guard District and beyond. In contingent operations, we have the capability to provide facility response teams (RT) nationwide to quickly restore operational capabilities to damaged critical CG infrastructure.

In September of 2009, the Naval Engineering Support Unit (NESU) New Orleans merged with Industrial Support Activity (ISA) New Orleans, ISA St. Louis, and Maintenance & Weapons Augmentation Team St. Louis as part of the stand up of the Surface Forces Logistics Center (SFLC). It was at this time that New Orleans became a flagship member of the Industrial Operations Division (IOD) of SFLC. The stand up of the asset Product Lines (PL) pulled the Port Engineers into their organization and away from the direct control of NESU. The PL's were the exclusive customer of the NESU of which PE's are the primary interface.

On 4 June 2013, NESU New Orleans was officially disestablished and integrated into Base New Orleans Naval Engineering Department. Technical Authority role continues to reside with SFLC-IOD while administrative control now falls under the Director of Operational Logistics (DOL). With a staff of military and civilians working together, Naval Engineering Dept New Orleans provides vital support to the operational missions conducted throughout the Eighth Coast Guard District and beyond.
