Mission Statement

The Environmental Health and Safety Division (EHS) exists to fulfill three main objectives:

  1. Support and Serve: EHS serves to support the missions of Base Cape Cod and USCG tenant commands. EHS personnel work alongside the personnel of the numerous tenant commands to guide them through compliance with environmental and safety requirements by the Federal and State Governments. EHS personnel are always ready to assist with any other matters involving the safety of both the environment and the workforce.

  2. Assess and Ensure: EHS makes it a top priority to frequently assess the safety of all personnel on base, including dependents and the families of our Coast Guard men and women. The EHS division publishes reports (below) pertaining to water quality, unexploded ordinance discovered around base, storm water pollution prevention, and other helpful documents for those live and who work on our base to ensure their safety and to educate them on safe and environmentally friendly practices.

  3. Manage and Reduce: EHS personnel manage recycling and the supply, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials. EHS is responsible for compliance with the requirements of the EPA, MA Dept. of Environmental Protection, OSHA, and MA Dept. of Labor Standards. Along with a number of other base-wide programs managed by the division, EHS is entrusted with the management and preservation of our natural and cultural resources, protection of state and federally listed endangered species on-base and tracking of potential effects to base air and water quality, all in an effort to monitor and reduce Base Cape Cod's impact on the environment.

The Environmental Health and Safety Division is committed to the people of Base Cape Cod and in turn, the environment. A cleaner and healthier environment facilitated by approved safe practices brings about a better base as a whole.
