Base Alameda Work-Life Division Transition Assistance Program (TAP)
Transitioning from the Coast Guard to civilian life can be more challenging than expected. To prepare members separating or retiring from the Coast Guard for this transition, the VOW Act of 2011 and COMDTINST 1900.2(series) requires that all eligible members complete the standardized components of the Transition Assistance Program (TAP). The 5-day TAP curriculum includes Veterans Affairs Benefits and Services, Financial Transition, Managing Your (MY) Transition, Military Occupational Code Crosswalk, Employment Fundamentals of Career Transition, and other valuable resources. Also included in the 5-day TAP curriculum are additional tracks (Employment, Education, Entrepreneurship, & Career and Credential Exploration).
Standardized components of the TAP:
- Initial/Pre-Separation Counseling and other Pre-Requisites to be discussed during the Initial Counseling (Voluntarily separating service members must receive Pre-Separation counseling no later than 365 days before final date of active duty)
- Attending a TAP seminar
- Capstone – Verification of Career Readiness Standards (CRS)
