The Family Advocacy Program (FAP) has three main goals. Prevent maltreatment within family and intimate partner relationships; Assist commands in addressing incidents of maltreatment; and Mitigate the effects of maltreatment incidents on mission-readiness where possible.
Base Portsmouth has three Family Advocacy Specialists (FAS). These are trained specialists who provide a vital service that helps to strengthen the lives and well-being of Coast Guard members and families, which translates to a stronger, healthier and more effective Coast Guard.
The FASs provide FAP case management services to Coast Guard members and families, as well as comprehensive support services to help ensure the safety of victims of abuse, assist all family members affected by or involved in the abuse, offender education and treatment, and help prevent further violence. The FASs are committed to ensuring victims of intimate partner abuse are protected and treated with dignity and respect.
Victims do not have to go through this difficult time alone. Please contact one of our FASs for more information on Family Advocacy, domestic violence and/or child abuse.
If you feel that you have been a victim of domestic violence and need immediate assistance, contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at (800) 799-SAFE, visit www.thehotline.org, or call 911.
