Polar Ice Breaker (PIB)

The Coast Guard was approved to enter the Analyze/Select phase of the Department of Homeland Security acquisition lifecycle for Polar Ice Breakers (PIB) in June of 2014. The purpose of this phase is to determine which alternative offers the optimum balance of affordability, timeliness, and performance for the end user.

The Human Systems Integration team is providing cost estimates for various tasks and reports to determine manpower needs, system functions, technical specifications, system safety, etc., that will comprise the Human Systems Integration Plan for the acquisition.

More information on PIBs can be found on the Acquisition Directorate's (CG-9) website.
