Partnership for Electronic Health Records
Flag Voice #486

I have good news to pass regarding our electronic health record program.  On April 9th the Coast Guard announced our intent to partner with the Department of Defense to deploy electronic health record (EHR) systems across the service’s clinics and sick bays. Under this partnership, the Coast Guard would use the same EHR system, MHS GENESIS, to provide a single electronic health record for Coast Guard members.

A complete and accurate record is necessary to support the delivery of the high quality, integrated health care and benefits you deserve.  With that in mind, we believe this partnership is the best possible solution to replace the current paper health record.

Under this arrangement, the EHR will improve data access and information sharing across Coast Guard, DoD and civilian health care organizations. Detailed coordination and planning activities are expected to begin later this year.  Although you won’t see changes in the near term, we are excited about the way ahead and look forward to bringing you a modernized, electronic health record.  As developments occur, we will provide updates to our beneficiaries.

If you have specific questions, please contact CAPT Gerald Taylor at Gerald.N.Taylor@uscg.mil.  Additional information about MHS GENESIS can be found at: http://www.health.mil/MHSGENESIS.
