ACN 028/19 - MAR 2019 CHANGE TO WEIGHT AND BODY FAT SCREENING PROCEDURES AND EXEMPTIONS TO WEIGH-IN OCCASIONS

The ACN states that the Uniform of the Day can be used for the taping process. Can the member remove their ODU blouse or Trops blouse to take measurement?

Yes, the member may remove their top, leaving on their blue T-shirt or white undershirt, to take measurements. The goal is to maintain the test’s accuracy while still allowing the member to remain clothed.

The ACN cites the Women’s Retention Study, but also states “All service members…”, is the new process just for females or for both genders?

The new taping process is available to both genders. Males and females can be measured while still clothed and are given a one inch allowance in their respective waist and hip measurement.

It is difficult to identify the waist measurement for males while the member has his top on, how should I measure him?

The member should be asked to identify his navel, i.e. by placing his finger over his navel, and then follow the procedures listed in COMDTINST M1020.8.

I suspect that a member is wearing a compression garment while I am attempting to perform a tape test, what should I do?

The member should be questioned whether or not they are wearing a compression garment. If the member is wearing a compression garment, the member should be instructed to remove the garment before continuing the tape test. If further assistance is needed, contact unit leadership.
