MHS GENESIS was the chosen program for the Coast Guard’s move to electronic health records due to numerous factors, including the EHR’s interoperability and continuity of care throughout all military branches, including the VA.

The Electronic Health Record Acquisitions (eHRa) Program segmented the acquisition into four distinct segments: A, B, C, and D. Segment B, which includes the digitization of legacy paper health records, is currently in progress. As of February 2025, significant progress has been made with 40% of paper health records successfully digitized. The remaining paper health records are being systematically prepared and processed for digitization.

While the initial target was set for September 2025, the scope and complexity of the task have led to an adjusted timeline. Current efforts are now projected to conclude in the third quarter of fiscal year 2027 (Q3FY27). This extended timeline ensures thorough and accurate digitization of all remaining paper records, maintaining the integrity and completeness of patient health information in the new electronic system.
