The Coast Guard placed a delivery order for two over the horizon IV (OTH IV) cutter boats Dec. 13. The order, valued at approximately $1.4 million, includes the boats, trailers, crew training and spare parts.

This order brings the total number of OTH IVs ordered to 110; one hundred three OTH IVs have been delivered. The two cutter boats under this order are scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of fiscal year 2020, for the ninth national security cutter (NSC), Stone.

The OTH IV is the service’s standard cutter boat to execute over the horizon missions. Two boats are assigned to each NSC, and one is assigned to each fast response cutter and medium endurance cutter. The OTH IVs are 26 feet long and have a top speed of 40 knots. Compared to earlier generations, the OTH IVs feature increased cargo space and seating, higher speeds, and compatibility with both stern and side-davit launch and recovery systems.

Current and planned assignments for the OTH IVs include the first nine national security cutters, the first 38 fast response cutters and other legacy vessels such as medium endurance cutters.
