Coast Guard Cutter Biscayne Bay arrived at the Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay, Maryland, June 27 to start its service life extension project (SLEP). The SLEP is one of several projects that comprise the In-Service Vessel Sustainment (ISVS) Program to enhance mission capability, improve reliability and reduce maintenance costs of the service’s legacy cutter fleet.
Biscayne Bay is the ninth of nine 140-foot icebreaking tugs to undergo service life extension work through ISVS. Planned work to extend the cutter’s service life by 15 years includes upgrades to propulsion and electrical systems, replacement of the boat-launching davit and habitability improvements.
