The Coast Guard honored 41 contracting and procurement professionals who have gone above and beyond in their duties during the second annual Contracting and Procurement Enterprise Recognition Ceremony held at Coast Guard Headquarters May 22, 2019.

The ceremony featured seven awards across both individual and team categories that were awarded for exceptional performance during fiscal year 2018. More than 100 attendees joined Adm. Charles Ray, vice commandant of the Coast Guard; Michael Derrios, head of contracting activity (HCA); and Trena Mills, chief of staff/special assistant for the Coast Guard Contracting Enterprise, in recognizing the accomplishments of the award recipients.

In his address, Ray extended his congratulations and gratitude to the entire enterprise and emphasized the importance of contracting. “In my lifetime, there has not been a time when contracting and procurement has been a more valuable service than it is right now,” he remarked. “It is really important to the service and how we get our jobs done … I can’t impress on you how much those in the field appreciate what you do.”

Nominations for each award were submitted by peers to their chief of contracting office (COCO). Each COCO evaluated the nominations and submitted their selection for each category to the HCA for final review and selection of winners.

Each award recipient received a trophy, certificate and personal letter from Derrios. “I can’t say enough about the achievements that I heard here today,” Derrios said at the conclusion of the ceremony. “You heard from the vice commandant how important your work is … without your incredibly important work, the Coast Guard wouldn’t get what it needs.”
