Fourth 225-Foot Seagoing Buoy Tender Arrives For Midlife Maintenance Availability

Coast Guard Cutter Maple arrived at the Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay, Maryland, Aug. 29, 2017, to begin its midlife maintenance availability (MMA) as part of the In-Service Vessel Sustainment Program. The 225-foot seagoing buoy tender is the fourth of 16 Juniper-class ships to undergo an MMA and came to the yard after more than a month of traveling through the Northwest Passage. Work on Maple will help the 16-year-old cutter meet its 30-year service life and includes a stability assessment; updates to the machinery control system, HVAC systems and propellers; an overhaul of the deck equipment and weight handling gear; and topside preservation.
