YORKTOWN, Va., Feb. 6, 2024 —
Recently, FORCECOM leveraged interagency partnerships with the Department of Transportation's (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) experts to provide on-line training to eight units on safety hazards and risk-mitigation associated with Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) facilities.
This tailored training connected with specific units that regulate this uncommon, highly flammable, and challenging cargo facility type to provide candid conversations and in-depth explanations. It helped key decision makers at these units better understand the design, operational, and contingency impacts in the nexus between marine transportation and energy infrastructure.
In the future, an analysis is planned to modernize the Facility Inspections Course to meet field needs to assess risk and address dynamic cargo industry trends to help prevent dangerous and disruptive incidents like the 2022 explosion in Quintana, Texas, at the Freeport LNG plant.
